How Can We Help?
Q. What is the Verification Mode in the Tools->Operation Mode menu? How is it different from just running a verification as my erasure method?
A. In Drive Verification mode a few things happen that differ from the same methods being implemented in the normal Drive Erasure mode.
- All logs get put into a Verify subfolder within the logs folder to keep them separate from any erasure logs on the same drive.
- The list of selectable methods and default methods are separate. Selectable methods should only be ones that have no write passes.
- Prior to verification, a quick multilocation sampling is performed and logged to get a reference block and determine if it’s random or un-erased data.
- Write passes of any sort are prohibited, including reformatting for block size, etc.
So while the end result is the same (verification), there are some convenience differences that make it useful to put XErase in Drive Verification Mode.
